Frequently Asked Questions

The most important tennis and multi-sport construction and resurfacing questions.

How much does a tennis court cost & how much does a tennis court resurfacing cost?

When it comes to pricing, we often receive inquiries about ballpark figures for new tennis court construction and existing tennis court resurfacing or restoration. Providing a precise estimate can be challenging due to various factors that influence the cost, such as geographic location, land grading, court access, fencing, lighting, surfacing, accessories, and more. However, we can give a general idea based on typical projects.

In Ontario, the cost for constructing a new tennis court generally starts at $100,000. It’s possible to come in under this figure, but that would require discussions about potentially forgoing certain features.

For tennis court resurfacing or restoration, costs can range from $10,000 to $30,000+ per court. This depends on the current condition of the court, the number of courts needing attention, and our recommendations to ensure the surface's longevity is maintained after the work is completed.

What are the different tennis court surfaces?

  • Think US Open or Miami Open. Hard courts use an acrylic coating installed on top of a rigid base such as asphalt or concrete. They provide a consistent bounce and are popular for their durability and low maintenance. Hard courts are most popular and are widely used in professional tournaments.

  • Like the French Open, clay courts are composed of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregates. These courts are known for their slow playing surface and higher ball bounce, which can favor baseline players and longer rallies. Clay courts require more maintenance to keep the surface level and hydrated, but they offer a softer surface that is gentler on players' joints.

  • Artificial turf courts simulate the look and feel of nautral grass with synthetic fibers. They provide a unique playing experience with a faster surface and lower bounce, resembling grass court characteristics. Artificial turf is low-maintenance compared to natural grass, offering durability and all-weather playability, making it an excellence choice for various climates and usage levels.

  • Versacourt sport tile courts from DIY Court Canada are composed of interlocking modular tiles made from high-impact materials. These courts provide excellent shock absorption and a consistence playing surface, with the added benefit of being quick to install and easy to maintain. These sport tile courts are highly versatile and customizable and can be used for multiple sports, offering good traction and drainable, making it ideal for multi-use facilities and backyards.
